Whereas earlier at the OASE project the highest point of the process water tanks was reached, the tanks were recently completed and successfully commissioned. Attention thus shifts to the next phase: excavation work has now started on the ground of the former settling basin in preparation for the construction of the new settling and filter plant. This constitutes an important next step in the largest investment in sustainable water management on the Chemelot site.
Excavation lays foundation for modern settling basin
Thanks to the intensive cooperation between Circle Infra Partners, BLM Industrial Contracting, Haskoning and other partners involved, the OASE project is now over halfway through. Now that the first phase has been completed, with the process water tanks delivered and commissioned, phase two has begun.
About the OASE project
The OASE project at Chemelot aims to renew and make the water infrastructure more sustainable. The project improves the separation and pre-treatment of process and rainwater before it goes to the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP), thus contributing to stricter environmental standards and to the ambition of operating in a fully circular and climate-neutral way by 2050. The construction of closed process tanks and a new sedimentation plant will make water management more efficient and improve the removal of sludge and microplastics, among other things. In doing so, the project will help protect regional water quality, including that of the Ur and Meuse rivers.
