Significant progress has been made recently within the OASE project at Chemelot. A time-lapse video captures the progress of the work up close, from the initial demolition and earthwork to the completion of new structures. With the completion of construction and the commissioning of the two new tanks for buffering process water in Phase 1, the completion of the new facility is coming into clearer view. This marks an important next step in the largest investment in sustainable water management at Chemelot.
From Demolition and Earthwork to Completion
The past period has been marked by several large-scale projects. Following the completion and commissioning of the two tanks in Phase 1, work on the next phase has begun. This included demolishing the existing thickener and flow channel and preparing the site for further construction.
The scope of the work is substantial. For example, approximately 2,500 metric tons of material were generated during the demolition work, and about 15,000 metric tons of soil were moved. In addition, approximately 100 meters of retaining wall was constructed, and about 4,000 metric tons of mixed aggregate were used. The concrete and structural work also played a significant role. Approximately 100 metric tons of rebar were installed, and a large total volume of concrete was used for the new floors and walls. In addition to the demolition, earthwork, concrete, and structural work, the new power conduit was installed and the pressure sewer for clean water was connected to the Elserheide storage facility.

On to the next milestones
The progress of the OASE project is the result of the dedication and expertise of various disciplines and collaborative partners. By combining the knowledge, experience, and expertise of Circle Infra Partners, Haskoning, BLM Industrial Contracting, and many other involved parties, the various components of the project are being realized step by step.
Work has now resumed following the construction industry’s summer break. In the coming period, we will continue working on the completion of Phase 2 and the further development of the facility. We look forward to the next milestones and will continue to work with our partners on a future-proof solution for water management at Chemelot.
