IAZI in Turnaround Phase 2: Maintenance Implementation.

The Turnaround (TA) at the Integrated Wastewater Treatment Plant (IAZI) has been in full swing for several weeks. The first phase, emptying and cleaning, was recently completed successfully. Thanks to everyone’s efforts, we were able to safely move on to the next phase: maintenance implementation. In this phase, we are performing essential maintenance and repair work on one of the facilities, ”street 6100,” so that it can once again run safely, reliably and sustainably for years to come.

What happens during this phase?

During this phase, we perform various activities that are only possible during an overall stop:

  • Repairs and preservation of plant parts that are normally flooded.
  • Overhaul of pumps and replacement or repair of defective parts.
  • Civil repairs to basins.
  • Relining (re-lining) of some sewer strands.

With this thorough approach, we can count on undisturbed operation for the next 15 years and meet all regulatory inspections and permit requirements.

”Originally, I have always been interested in engineering. How does something work? Why is something made the way it is? During a Turnaround, that curiosity comes together perfectly with my drive to continuously improve. The trick is to look for solutions together with the experts, without sitting in their chair. Not thinking in limitations, but in possibilities. What I like best is being able to spar with experts about how we can do something smarter or more efficiently. You often hear why something can’t be done, but that’s precisely where the challenge lies for me: thinking in solutions.”

Safety and sustainability first

All work is performed according to strict safety procedures from our Life Saving Rules (LSR). These include VSSs, Work Permits, MoCs, JSAs and LMRAs. Together, this is how we ensure a safe working environment for everyone.
During the TA, we also focus on sustainability. For example, we have electrically connected many of the pumps needed to keep the other streets operating. This limits the use of diesel generators and reduces our carbon emissions.

Collaborating with results

The mutual cooperation was also constructive and effective during this phase, with all contractors on board. Despite the challenging conditions and high temperatures, the employees remained motivated and continued the work. This contributed to a result in which all indicators (safety, lead time, quality and cost) remained within the set standards. An achievement to be proud of!

”I can’t name a specific moment, but it’s the overall feeling. Seeing everyone working in a friendly atmosphere, with the common goal firmly in mind and the confidence that we are going to achieve it: that makes me a satisfied person. The compliments of a satisfied client are the icing on the cake.”
